W.A. Bramlett, Sr. of Winder died on November 10, 2024 at the age of 89.
He was born on August 24, 1935 in Winder, the son of the late Carl and Maggie Scroggs Bramlett. W.A. was a faithful follower of Christ, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. W.A. started his career in construction, later developing his own plumbing business.
He also managed and directed maintenance/facilities in the Gwinnett and Barrow County School Systems from which he retired. Education was important to W.A. having served on the Barrow County Board of Education for over two decades including multiple terms as Board Chairman. Always a servant leader, he also served on the Barrow County Board of Commissioners. W.A. was a lifelong Baptist and lifetime member of Bethabra Baptist Church, where his father was choir director and where he served as a deacon. W.A. was a member of Masonic Lodge #230 in Auburn and served as Worshipful Master.
W.A. is survived by his wife of 68 years, Elizabeth Shumate Bramlett; son Bill and wife, Vicky; daughter-in-law, Dana; daughter Pam and husband, Jarrett Perry; and daughter Dr. Leigh Anne and husband, Chuck Sears. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Steve. Grandchildren include Ben and Jim Bramlett; Kasi Lozano; Kristen Pineda; Ethan Perry; Maggie and Anna Sears; and 13 great grandchildren and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is also survived by one sibling, Annette Benifield, of South Carolina.
The family will receive friends on Friday, November 15 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at Carter Funeral Home. A Masonic graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 16 at 11:00 am at the Bethabra Baptist Church Cemetery. Interment will follow the service.
