Master Sergeant (Retired) William Leslie Barber, Jr., United States Air Force, age 76 of Auburn, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 14, 2023, surrounded by his family.
MSGT Barber retired from the United States Air Force with the rank of Master Sergeant and later retired from the State of Florida with the NAFTA program. He was also a former Commissioner with the Boy Scouts of America where he dedicated his life with over fifty years of service. MSGT Barber was a true American patriot.
MSGT Barber is preceded in death by his parents, William Leslie Barber, Sr. and Helen Keating Barber; and sister, Patricia Deeds.
MSGT Barber is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Karen McCray Barber of Auburn; daughter, Sonya (Carter) Vaverek of Auburn; and three grandchildren, that he adored, Caroline, Emily, and Connor Vaverek.
A family graveside service will be held at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia with military honors rendered by the United States Air Force Honor Guard.
The family has respectfully requested in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the VFW Post 3467 at 216 Lake Hope Drive Nelsonville, OH 45764.
