Michael "Mike" C. Mays

September 25, 1950 — March 18, 2024

Mr. Michael “Mike” C. Mays, age 73, of Winder, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 18, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Mays served the United States faithfully in the Marine Corps and completed a tour during the Vietnam War. He was well known for his dedicated work ethic; Mike retired from General Motors after thirty years of service then continued work after retirement with the Walton County Water Department. He will be best remembered as a loving family man, and especially for being an incredible Paw-Paw to his grandchildren who considered him more as a friend than a grandfather. Mike was devoted to his faith and had a heart for taking care of others that needed help the most. He served as a deacon of Alcova Baptist Church. He lived his life by “The greatest thing a man can do is to obey Heaven,” which is his legacy that he leaves behind.

Mr. Mays was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Simpson Mays and Sadie Bell Moon Mays; and a brother, Phillip Mays.

Mr. Mays is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years, Doris Mays; children, Rodney (Dru) Mays of Bethlehem and Michelle (Andy) Crissinger of Ft. Mill, SC; siblings, Glenda Shaw of Winder, Mark Mays of Newnan, Marsha Greenwood of Talking Rock, and Sara Mays of NY, NY; grandchildren, Mariana Melendez-Mays, Hannah Lovell, Tanner Carnes, Ryleigh Carnes, Beulah Crissinger, Chayah Crissinger, and Judah Crissinger; and one great-grandchild, Enoch Pistole.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, March 21, 2024 at Alcova Baptist Church, 1540 Alcovy Road SE Lawrenceville, GA with Rev. Kenneth Parker officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Mays will Lie in State on Thursday from 1:00 PM until the service hour at the church.

The family will be receiving friends on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Carter Funeral Home.
