Joyce Mae Head, 89, Shawnee, KS, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, December 17, 2021.
Joyce ("Joycie Mae") was born in South Glens Falls, NY, to the late Francis and Dorothy (Little) Rozelle on September 13, 1932. She was married to Dr. John (Gene) Head, Sr. on October 26, 1956. He preceded her in death January 3, 2014.
Joyce was best known by everyone in her later years as “Nana Joyce.” Though blessed as a mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, she claimed many others as her very own family. Joyce and the late Dr. Head were legal guardians of two very special boys, Michael and David Yeom. God also blessed them with a very special “adopted” daughter, Jill Wilkins. The late Dr. Head was shown this little girl in a vision before she would come into their lives as a young woman.
Though her secular career was wide ranging from the Pinellas Park County (FL) Sheriff’s Office, Cobb County Board of Education and I.A.M. (The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers), Joyce spent her entire adult life in service to the Lord. She was an ordained minister and traveled the world with her husband in ministry. Joyce was blessed with a beautiful alto voice, loved to worship the Lord, and shared the love of Jesus with nearly everyone she met.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, sister Fay Tessman and brothers James Rozelle, Sr. and Arthur Rozelle.
Surviving are her children Rev. John (Gene) and Theresa Head, Carol and Tony Hall, grandchildren Ryan and Shannon Head, Bryan and Vicky Hall, Phillip Head, Jeremy Hall, Michael Yeom and David Yeom, great grandchildren Liam and McKenzie Head, brother Ben Rozelle, sisters Sandie McTygue and Karen Morgan, brother-in-law Levi Clayton Head, sister-in-law Latrelle Wallace, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Monday, December 27th, 9:00 a.m. in the chapel of Carter Funeral Home, Winder, GA with Rev. Dee Smith and Rev. John (Gene) Head officiating. Burial will follow at Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, GA at 1:30 p.m.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Sunday, December 26th, at Carter Funeral Home, 265 Highway 211 NW, Winder, GA, (770) 867-1361.
