Mr. John Franklin Long, age 77, of Winder, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 19, 2022.
Mr. Long was a dedicated member of the Winder First Baptist Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir. He was devoted to his faith and had a great love for the Lord. He served the United States faithfully in the Army as an air traffic controller in Germany during the Vietnam War. Mr. Long was a graduate of the University of Georgia and was an avid Georgia Bulldogs fan! He was an insurance agent throughout his career.
Mr. Long is preceded in death by his parents, Malcolm M. Long and Dorothy Angle Long; and sister, Virginia Long Bain.
Mr. Long is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Pirkko Koponen Long of Winder; son, David Long of Clearwater, Fl; brother, Jim Long of Centre, AL; several nieces and nephews; and a beloved furry companion, Heidi.
The family of Mr. Long will be receiving friends on Wednesday, November 23, 2022 from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM at Carter Funeral Home. Burial will be held at the Georgia National Cemetery on December 12, 2022 at 12:30 PM with military honors rendered by the United States Army Honor Guard.
The family of Mr. Long welcomes flowers or donations may be made to the Winder First Baptist Church building fund.
