Jimmie W. Robbins, United States Air Force Retired, age 86, of Winder, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 8, 2023.
Born on January 23, 1937 and raised in Columbia, Mississippi, Jim was the youngest of five children born to Bertha Riley and O.C. Robbins. Jim joined the military right out of high school following the lead of his brothers. He joined the Air Force in 1955 and served most of his time in Chapel Management until he retired with twenty years of service, receiving an Honorable Discharge. Upon retirement, Jim moved to Tallahassee, Florida and started a second career in Credit Unions, serving as head of the Research and Information Department of the Florida League. In 1984, he moved to Atlanta, Georgia to manage a credit union and to pursue the love of his life, Elaine, whom he married in 1995. He was with Atlanta Federal Credit Union until he retired in 2003. He remained a best friend, constant companion, and loving husband as long as he lived and forevermore.
Jim can be best known and seen through his family and through his other passion for photography. Jim developed all of his own work and had a gift for seeing and printing the best of the beauty around him. His work was shown and sold well at juried art shows; they were also received as precious gifts by family and friends alike. As the camera lens reflects the beauty it captures, Jim’s life reflects the beauty of his heart.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and siblings and, much to his aching heart, also by his youngest, Vance.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine, his son, Barry (Marsha), and his youngest daughter Rhonna who lives and teaches in Norway, and his daughter-in-law Charlene (Forrest), his grandchildren Garret, Katlin, Bethany, Dane, Morgan, Malory, Madison, Olivia, Victoria, Faith, Addie, and Margot.
The memorial service to honor and celebrate the life of Jim Robbins will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at the Bethlehem First United Methodist Church, 709 Christmas Ave. Bethlehem, Georgia 30620. Military honors will be rendered by the United States Air Force Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Bethlehem First United Methodist Church for the House of Bread feeding ministry.
Carter Funeral Home, Winder, is entrusted with the arrangements.
