Mr. James Chester "Checkie" Varnum, Jr., age 69, of Winder, passed away on Monday, October 7, 2024.
Mr. Varnum was a 1973 graduate of Winder-Barrow High School. Throughout his life he worked in construction. Checkie enjoyed woodworking, crafting, and was a talented artist. He enjoyed playing his guitar and loved his pet cats dearly.
Mr. Varnum was preceded in death by his parents; James Chester "Chet" Varnum, Sr. and Lillian Jones Varnum; sister, Marcia Denise Varnum; and brother, Michael David Varnum.
Mr. Varnum is survived by his brother, Russell (Lynne) Varnum of Winder; niece, Brittany Anne Varnum (Tyler James) of Lula; great-niece, Anslee (Isaiah) Nix; great-nephew, Kasen Nix; and great-great nephew, Amir Davenport.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 12, 2024, in the Chapel of Carter Funeral Home with Rev. Dale Hutchins officiating. The family will be receiving friends on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the service hour at Carter Funeral Home.
Flowers are welcome or memorial contributions can be made in Checkie's memory to a charity of one's choice.
