Mr. James William Still, age 77, of Winder, passed away on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at his residence.
Mr. Still retired from the City of Winder. He is best remembered by his family as a man with a heart of gold, loved to laugh, and enjoyed life. Mr. Still loved cooking for his friends and family; He was affectionately known as “Turtleman” since he was well known for his famous turtle stew. Mr. Still served in the United States Army.
Mr. Still is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Novene Still; and his parents, Bill and Stella Meadows Still.
Mr. Still is survived by his children, Brian (Angie) Still of Jefferson and Erica (Bill) Weide of Jackson, AL; siblings, Wayne Still of Fort Payne, AL, Elaine (Doug) Evans of Bethlehem, and Ricky Still of Bethlehem; special niece, Kim (Larry) Taylor of Winder; and five grandchildren, Dominnick Still, Charlie Still, Ashli (Tyler) Pridgen, Faith Weide, and Alli Weide.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Carter Funeral Home with Rev. Jack Segars officiating. Burial will follow the service at Hill Haven Memory Gardens in Monroe with military honors rendered by the United States Army Honor Guard. The family will be receiving friends on Tuesday, October 11, 2022 from 6:00 PM util 8:00 PM and on Wednesday from 12:00 PM until the service hour at Carter Funeral Home.
