Ms. Dora Frances Fleming, age 88, of Winder, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 11, 2024 at Magnolia Estates Assisted Living. She has been a resident of Barrow County for the past forty years.
Ms. Fleming was a Magna Cum Laude graduate of the University of South Florida. She taught English and Social Studies in both Florida and Georgia public schools.
A certified Master Gardener, Dora used her knowledge and volunteer spirit in many ways to beautify Barrow County as well as write a weekly gardening column for local newspapers. Dora was an active member for many years of the Winder Garden Club, the Women’s Club of Winder, Winder First Baptist Church, Keep Barrow Beautiful and the Master Gardeners organizations.
Ms. Fleming was preceded in death by her brother, Herman Eugene Garrick of Grove Hill, AL. She is survived by her children, Lee Byron Fleming of Winder, Lorraine (Terry) Sizemore of Yadkinville, NC, and grandchildren, Zachary and Madison Fleming, Sam and Ella Sizemore.
Per the request of the family, no services will be held.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to First Baptist Church of Winder, 625 Jefferson Highway, Winder, Ga 30680 or the Barrow County Extension Office, 90 Lanthier Street, Winder, GA 30680.
