Donald Thornton

Mr. Donald Thornton, age 77, of Bogart, Georgia, formerly of Winder, passed away March 22, 2020. Donald was born February 7, 1943 in Monroe, Georgia to the late Carl and Wilma Williamson Thornton. He was preceded by his first Wife, Lillian Wheeler Thornton, Son, Kerry Scott Thornton and Sister, Janis Foster. He was a retiree of General Motors with thirty-three and a half years of service. Donald had resided in this area most of his life and was a longtime member of Union Baptist Church. He was a 1961 Graduate of Winder-Barrow High School.

Surviving are Wife, Veta Tanner Thornton, Children, Mickey and Julie Thornton, of Williston, Florida, Kathy and Chris Cater of Ball Ground, Georgia, Rick & Lori McElroy, Neal and Rosalind McElroy all of Bogart, Georgia, Joe and Sondra McElroy of Hoschton, Georgia, Scott McElroy of Bogart, Georgia, Denise and Joseph Johnson of Winder, Georgia, Seven Grandchildren, Three Great Grandchildren and Brother, Everette Thornton of Winder, Georgia.

Due to the State of Georgia’s restrictions due to the Corona Virus outbreak, all current services for Mr. Thornton will be private. We sincerely regret that services could not be carried out as planned, but we have no choice but to comply with State of Georgia’s mandates concerning this. Interment will be in Barrow Memorial Gardens. A Memorial Service for Mr. Thornton will be held at a later time and date.
