Carolyn Brown Settle was born in Winder, Georgia to Boyd and Bertha Brown on January 16, 1934. She went to her heavenly rest on July 21, 2024 at the age of 90.
Carolyn attended Winder High School then went to West Georgia with graduation from the University of Georgia in 1955. She married Thomas Settle in 1955 and remained devoted partners for 66 years. They traveled to many states and to Germany with his military career and she always made the new place home for their family. She believed in giving her children both roots and wings.
After settling back in Winder in 1986 she found joy in many activities with friends and extended family. She was a lifetime member of the First Baptist Church of Winder and supported many ministries. She was active in community affairs receiving an award from the Barrow County Chamber of Commerce. She also served her community on the Board of Health.
She became an avid quilter over the years making amazing works of art for family, friends and many charitable organizations. Her Log Cabin quilt and a Jug Tavern group quilt were both included as gifts to flagbearers during the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.
The library was one of her favorite places to go. She enjoyed reading so much which helped her fill the time after Tom’s passing in 2022. Her dear friends kept her supplied with books as well.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years Thomas Settle and her parents Boyd and Bertha Brown. She is survived by her children Tim (Nancy) and Pam (Jim). She is survived by her grandchildren Jonathan Settle (Libby), Stephen Settle (Hillary), Daniel Miles (Tiffany) and Cari Horn (Michael). She is also survived by her five great-grandchildren Caleb and Avery Settle, Chloe Settle, Landon Horn and Vivienne Miles.
The Funeral service will be held in the Chapel of Carter Funeral Home on Thursday July 25 2024 at 2 pm. Visitation will precede the service from 12-2 pm. Burial will follow the service at Barrow Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to First Baptist Church of Winder in her memory.
