Louis Monroe Lovin age 95 of Winder, Georgia passed away peacefully on August 29, 2024, at The Landing of Winder.
He was born in Carl, GA March 21, 1929 to the late Dewey Roosevelt Lovin and Mattie Higgins Lovin. Louis was predeceased by brothers Edwin Lovin (Elizabeth), Billy Lovin, sister Frances Lovin Beddingfield (Gene) and third wife Anne Williamson Huff. Louis is survived by his sisters Violet Lovin Mobley (Pete) of Snellville, GA, Charlotte Lovin Brown of Winder, GA, sister-in-law Sarah Lovin of Winder, daughters Tammy Lovin Snyder (Brent) of Bishop, GA and Teresa Lovin Clayton (Chris) of Talking Rock, GA, 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Louis was a 1947 graduate of Winder Barrow High School where he played basketball and was a member of the FFA. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War and earned an Honorable Discharge in 1952. While in the service, Louis played on the basketball team and ran track. He served in the United States Navy Reserves until 1957.
He was a member of Auburn Lodge #230 F&AM, Past Master 1969, 1977 and 1998, a member of the Barrow-Jackson Daylight Lodge #766, recipient of the 50th Grand Lodge Award, a member of the Yaarab Shrine Temple, Knights of the Templar and the VFW. Louis was a member of the First Baptist Church of Winder. He was a retiree of General Motors and enjoyed hunting, gardening, UGA football and Braves baseball.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, in the Chapel of Carter Funeral Home with Rev. Irby Stanley officiating and Masonic Rites rendered. Burial with military honors will follow the service at Barrow Memorial Gardens, Winder. The family will be receiving friends on Tuesday from 12:00 PM until the service hour at Carter Funeral Home.
